GULLS

World Premiere Musical
a free adaptation of Chekhov’s The Seagull
book and lyrics by Nick Salamone

music by Maury McIntyre
directed by Jessica Kubzansky

Previews July 17- 25

Opens July 26 and runs thru August 24

It’s 1959 in Greenwich Village and Hollywood, and a family of troubled dreamers yearns for love, immortality and survival. Irenie, a glamorous Broadway star, Gore, her novelist/screenwriter lover, Conrad, her Beat poet son, and Nina, the lovely young African-American everyone loves, engage in an epic struggle for passion and connection in this haunting new musical, rich with Chekhovian longing.

"The splendid score flows seamlessly...Kitty McNamee offers stylish choreography. Michelle Ney's set, Alex Jaeger's costumes, and Jeremy Pivnick's lighting glisten with lyrical grace...this cerebral and aesthetic treat is among Boston Court's most impressive accomplishments."

-- Les Spindle, Back Stage West

"The ensemble is simply remarkable."
-- Vicki Smith Paluch, Pasadena Star News

"Gulls is...a sweeping, gently elegant, resplendently appointed musical adaptation of Chekhov’s enduring masterpiece The Seagull...a major, major new musical."
-- Travis Michael Holder, Entertainment Today

"Kubzansky's direction is clever and lively, and McIntyre's score is jazzy and tasteful, performed skillfully under conductor Crayon."

-- Terry Morgan, Variety

"...there’s so much good work on this stage."

-- Steven Leigh Morris, LA Weekly

How has theatre and the spoken word been used (and is still being used) to reflect and effect the issues of the day?

LATE NITE SALON @ THE COURT  Friday, August 22 after the 8pm show.  Want somewhere to go after you see the show? Stay and talk about the play over a complimentary glass of wine with some of the show’s creative people!
