Boston Court Pasadena (BCP) is a non-profit performing arts center primarily dedicated to developing and producing adventurous new work, significantly re-envisioned classics, and nurturing both emerging and established artists across all art forms. Business Manager
Classification: Full-Time, Exempt
Compensation: $75,000/year, plus employer-paid health insurance, PTO (paid time off), and employee 401K

Position Summary
The Business Manager is a senior role responsible for the operational, financial, and administrative management of Boston Court Pasadena. Reporting to the CEO and working in close partnership with the Artistic Director, the Business Manager oversees Finance, Human Resources, Labor Relations, and Production Operations. This role ensures compliance with union agreements, employment laws, and nonprofit best practices, while advancing the organization’s artistic mission and long-term sustainability.
Institutional Administration & Executive Support

- Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO, translating organizational priorities into operational plans, schedules, and systems.
- Contribute to strategic planning, institutional policy development, and cross-departmental coordination.
- Provide executive-level administrative support to the CEO, including calendar management, meeting preparation, briefing materials, and correspondence.
- Manage contracts and deal memos for artists, musicians, designers, production staff, rental clients, insurance, and facilities.Maintain institutional records and archives, including contracts, insurance policies, ASCAP statements, production documentation, and compliance records.
- Facilitate cross-departmental communication, ensuring that administrative processes, documentation, and reporting are efficient and effective.
- Order office, janitorial, concession and other supplies.
Finance, Budgeting & Audit

- Oversee day-to-day financial operations in alignment with nonprofit accounting standards.
- Manage accounts payable, reimbursements, expense tracking, and internal financial controls using QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, Expensify, and related platforms.
- Collaborate with the CEO, bookkeepers, and external accounting partners to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.
- Support annual operating budget development, cash flow forecasting, and ongoing financial monitoring.
- Oversee petty cash, deposits, and financial documentation.
- Coordinate the annual independent audit and IRS Form 990 preparation in partnership with CPA/auditors.
Human Resources, Labor Relations & Compliance

- Lead HR operations, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations.
- Administer payroll and timekeeping systems, ensuring timely and accurate weekly processing.
- Oversee hiring, onboarding, and orientation for staff, artists, and seasonal employees.
- Serve as primary administrator for union and labor processes, ensuring compliance with applicable agreements (AEA, SDC, AFM, USA, IATSE, AGMA, etc.).
- Conduct staff and company orientations to communicate organizational policies, workplace standards, and compliance requirements.
- Maintain employee records in Rippling/Sync and physical files in coordination with external HR consultants.
- Oversee Workers’ Compensation and Disability Insurance audits, accident reporting, and claims documentation.
- Coordinate mandatory training, workplace safety, and health protocol compliance.
- Administer employee benefits, including enrollments, terminations, open enrollment, and staff communications.
- Track and administer PTO, sick leave, and leaves of absence in alignment with policy and labor agreements.
- Manage business, ABC licenses, and compliance for Concessions
Production Operations & Company Management

- Partner with Artistic and Production leadership to support production planning, scheduling, and execution.
- Oversee production-related administrative functions, including contracting, payroll setup, and compliance documentation for artists and staff.
- Ensure appropriate working conditions, safety standards, and union compliance during rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances.
- Conduct company orientations and ensure completion of required paperwork.
Additional Responsibilities

- Collect and review Certificates of Insurance (COIs) for accuracy, confirming coverage limits, policy dates, and required endorsements.
- Ensure Boston Court Pasadena is named as an Additional Insured where required, and that supporting endorsements are on file.

Audio Technician
Classification: Part-Time, Seasonal, Non-Exempt, $31 an hour
Reports To: Technical Director and Facilities Manager (Direct)

Summary of the Job:
Boston Court Pasadena seeks a skilled and detail-oriented Audio Technician to support sound implementation for theatrical productions, concerts, and special events. The Audio Technician assists with the setup, operation, and maintenance of all sound systems, and ensures smooth execution of performances and events with high-quality audio.
Essential Functions:
- Install, test, and operate sound equipment, including mixing consoles, speakers, microphones, monitors, playback systems (e.g., QLab), and intercoms.
- Support the Sound Designer and Sound Supervisor during technical rehearsals and builds, implementing cues and design elements as needed.
- Troubleshoot and resolve audio issues quickly and effectively.
- Maintain audio equipment and cables, ensuring proper storage, labeling, and organization.
- Assist with mic fitting and maintenance, especially in productions requiring body mics.
- Support load-in and strike activities, including setting up or restoring audio infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and contribute to a collaborative production environment.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in operating digital audio consoles (e.g., Behringer X32 or Avantis), and wireless microphone systems.
- Experience with digital audio snakes, Dante network and audio over ethernet protocols.
- Experience setting up mobile PA systems and arrays.
- Experience mixing monitors and in-ear systems.
- Experience with Qlab.
- Familiarity with theatrical sound design workflows and performance needs in an intimate venue.
- Basic knowledge of signal flow, gain structure, EQ, mic placement, and audio troubleshooting.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment (up to 50 lbs) and work on ladders or in catwalks when necessary.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a professional and team-oriented attitude.
- Availability for evening and weekend rehearsals, tech, and performances.
- Experience working in small to mid-sized venues or black box theatres.
- Comfort with live mixing, both for theatre and music events.
- Experience with acoustic and amplified settings, especially for new or experimental work.
- Experience with Alan and Heath digital consoles is a plus.
- Experience with DAW software such as ProTools logic Ableton is a plus.

Carpenter
Classification: Part-Time, Hourly, Seasonal, Non-Exempt, $25
Reports To: Technical Director and Facilities Manager (Direct)
Summary of the Job:
The Carpenter / Technician reports directly to the Technical Director. The primary duties of this position include assisting with technical needs of theatrical or musical productions related to set construction, installation and removal, general assistance with production, building and equipment maintenance.
Essential Functions:
● Assist with all technical theatre aspects of production
● Set installation and removal
● Set construction
● General assistance with production needs (i.e. installation of masking, set repairs, painting, etc.)
● Assist with maintenance and upkeep of building and production equipment.
● Cooperate with other carpenters to help facilitate the completion of all work within the scheduled timeframe.
● Assist Properties Master, Production Carpenter, Master Carpenters and/or Lighting & Video
● Supervisor as needed to complete projects.
● Clean work area post assignment and shop to ensure safety and best practices
● Maintain scene shop tools and equipment.

Qualifications:
● Knowledge of a wide range of tools & materials as well as experience and proficiency in a variety of MIG welding, woodworking & carpentry techniques.
● The ability to read working technical drawings.
● Ability to effectively communicate both to ask informed questions and relay information to others
● High School diploma or equivalent required.
● Knowledge of theatrical rigging is a plus.
● Must be able to kneel, twist, bend and be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs on a regular basis.
● Must be capable of responsible judgment and mature interpersonal relationships.

Scenic Painter
Classification: Part-Time, Hourly, Seasonal, Non-Exempt, $25 an hour
Reports To: Technical Director and Facilities Manager (Direct)
Summary of the Job:
Boston Court Pasadena is seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Scenic Painter to support the realization of scenic designs for our theatrical productions. The Scenic Painter is responsible for executing all paint treatments, textures, and surface finishes based on designer renderings and samples, working in collaboration with the Technical Director and Scenic Designer.
Essential Functions:
● Translate design renderings, paint elevations, and samples into finished scenic treatments.
● Mix paints, dyes, and finishes to match color specifications accurately.
● Apply base coats, texture, aging, faux finishes, and other paint techniques using appropriate tools (brushes, rollers, sprayers, etc.).
● Work with scenic team to determine schedule and priority of paint tasks within build timelines.
● Maintain a clean and organized paint area and ensure proper care, use, and storage of materials and tools.
● Ensure that all paint work meets safety and environmental standards, including proper handling and disposal of materials.
● Collaborate effectively with Technical Director, Scenic Designer, and other production team members.
Qualifications:
● Demonstrated experience as a Scenic Painter in theatre, film, or related environments.
● Proficiency in a variety of scenic painting techniques including color matching, aging, distressing, wood graining, marbling, stenciling, and texturing.
● Ability to interpret and work from paint elevations, renderings, and models.
● Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, or scaffolding, and with basic scenic carpentry tools when necessary.
● Excellent time management, organization, and communication skills.
● Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Master Electrician
Classification: Part-Time, Hourly, Seasonal, Non-Exempt, $35/hour

Summary of the Job:
The Master Electrician reports directly to the Technical Director and Facilities Manager. The primary duties of this position include equipment maintenance, hanging and focusing theatrical lighting, designing plots, programming consoles and running boards for theatrical or musical productions at Boston Court. (Some architectural installations. Like art shows and the uplights in the lobby etc)
Essential Functions:
- Interpret lighting plots and develop comprehensive plans for hang, cabling, circuiting, and materials procurement.
- Lead and supervise electrical calls.
- Program lighting consoles, including patching and initial show programming.
- Serve as primary technical partner to the Lighting Designer, supporting troubleshooting and realization of artistic intent.
- Diagnose and resolve fixture and console issues, implementing effective mitigation strategies.
- Train and guide electricians in safe and proper hanging, circuiting, and programming practices.
- Install and focus lighting systems for all Boston Court Pasadena productions.
- Execute strike of production lighting and restore repertory plot.
- Operate ETC Eos-family consoles (Ion and Nomad).
- Provide basic lighting design support and look programming as needed.
- Support general production lighting needs, including infrastructure installation (e.g., pipe installation for lighting positions).
- Support rental clients with advance and day-of programming and board operation.
- Provide day-of-event programming and board operation support for Boston Court Pasadena events (galas, engagement events, rentals, etc.).

Qualifications:
- Demonstrated professional experience in theatrical lighting production, preferably in a producing or presenting venue.
- Strong ability to interpret and execute lighting plots, including hang, circuiting, addressing, and system configuration.
- Proficiency with ETC Eos-family consoles (Ion, Nomad), including patching, cue building, and basic effects programming.
- Working knowledge of theatrical electrical systems, dimming, data distribution (DMX/sACN), and networking basics.
- Proven troubleshooting skills for lighting fixtures, control systems, and signal flow.
- Commitment to safe working practices and ability to train and supervise overhire or house electricians.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Lighting Designers, Production Managers, Technical Director and visiting creative teams.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects and timelines simultaneously.
- Ability to lift and move lighting equipment and work at heights using ladders or personnel lifts, in accordance with safety standards.
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, technical rehearsals, and performance schedules as required.
